13 November 2007: Lone Star Scuba is proud to announce that the Fort Worth location is now a PADI 5 Star Dive Center. Achieving this status will allow us to offer more courses and also bring you a higher standard of training. Be sure to check out the Specialties page for the list of PADI Specialties offered. For our schedule of classes you may check out our Continuing Education page as well. 13 March 2007: Marty Snyderman is teaching a seminar on underwater photography on 15 April 2007 from 10:00 am - 4:30 pm. Marty is one of the most talented underwater photographers on the planet. The seminar will be held at the La Quinta at 10001 North Central Expessway in Dallas. We are not sponsoring this event, but we like and recommend the folks who are. The Dallas Underwater Photographic Society, or DUPS, are very nice people and committed to quality underwater imaging. You can visit them at http://dups.org/ to learn more about the seminar or their club. The link to the seminar info is http://dups.org/seminar/. We are now the KISS closed circuit rebreather (CCR) dealer for Texas and the surrounding areas. These are manual rebreathers and have a great safety record. KISS offers a Sport model that is more recreational and travels well and the more technical Classic model. We'll be offering training by June and host a hands-on seminar in the pool, also in June. Visit the Jetsam Technologies web site, manufacturer of KISS, at http://jetsam.ca/. Learn more about their CCRs here. Check out our Whale Shark Safari trips to Holbox, Mexico. I have been to Holbox four times since the end of 2005 and have never failed to see a whale shark, and I mean close up. We did three store trips to Holbox last Summer and on the best day saw between 50 and 60 whale sharks! To see just one will make you smile for a week. The island of Holbox is unspoiled and beautiful like no place we have seen recently. There are no paved roads, everyone walks or drives a golf cart. Even the taxis are golf carts and the food is wonderful stuff like lobster pizza, lobster empanadas and great Italian and Cuban cuisine. View some images I took from previous trips here. Where else are you going to see a whale shark this easily? We are the most experienced at guiding Holbox trips in the area. See Holbox before it becomes popular and changes forever. 5 March 2007: As some of you may have noticed the website has gone through a couple of changes. We hope that this new format will be easier to navigate and provide the information you are looking for. If you need to access the old site you can do so by clicking here: Old LSS Website. The gallery section of the site has been completely modified and filled with some amazing photos taken by Manny. There are new trips on the way so keep your eyes and ears tuned. We just returned from Cozumel and the diving was superb. I suggest everyone go there at least once this year. The coral looked great and there were plenty of sharks, turtles, eels, and fish. We look forward to seeing all of you this year and hope you have a great diving season. 29 November 2006: We are happy to be able to invite you to meet Stan Waterman at Lone Star Scuba in Fort Worth on Saturday, December 9th from 2:00 5:00 pm followed by a screening of some of his amazing work in underwater cinema and video. Stan will be at the store conducting a book signing for his recently published work, “Sea Salt”, which is a compilation of 50 years of memories and essays of this quintuple Emmy award winning film maker and adventurer. Following the signing, we’ll host an informal screening of Stan’s work and Question and Answer session at nearby Lockheed Martin Recreational Association. Please contact the shop to let us know if you plan to attend or if you have any questions. See you Saturday. 7 November 2006: Scubapro is offering a rebate to those taking open water certification courses.
