Decompression Procedures

OVERVIEW

This course is to provide the diver with a working knowledge of the theory, methods and procedures of planned stage decompression diving. As a part of the course students will plan and conduct a standard stage decompression dive not exceeding a maximum depth of 150 fsw (55 msw). Equipment requirements and configurations, decompression breathing gas mixtures (including oxygen and nitrox) and decompression techniques are to be presented. (This course may be combined with Advanced Nitrox Diver. The resulting courses require an additional open water dives for certification.)

QUALIFICATIONS OF GRADUATES

Upon successful completion of this course, graduates are considered competent to utilize EANx mixtures 21% through 100% (oxygen) without direct supervision provided the diving activities and the areas dived approximate those of training.

STUDENT PRE-REQUISITES

  • Minimum age 18
  • Minimum certification of TDI Advanced Nitrox Diver (or equivalent)diver.
  • Minimum of 25 open water dives in the environment in which the course is being presented

REQUIRED COURSE MINIMUMS

  • Classroom / Briefing Hours - 6 (estimated)
  • Openwater Dives - 4 (with a minimum accumulated bottom time of 100 minutes).

If Advanced Nitrox is taught in conjunction with Decompression Procedures, a total of six (6) dives are required for both.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT

The following equipment is the minimum required for each student:
  • Primary Cylinder(s) Cylinder volume appropriate for planned dive and student gas consumption
  • Decompression Mix Cylinder(s)
    1. Cylinder volume appropriate for the planned dive and student gas consumption with submersible pressure gauge
    2. Labeied in accordance with TDI Standards
  • Depth gauge and automatic bottom timer and I or dive computer
  • Regulator(s)
    1. Primary and alternate 2nd stage required on all primary cylinders
    2. Submersible pressure gauges are required on all primary cylinders
  • Buoyancy Compensator(s) adequate for equipment configuration
  • Jon-line and other rigging lines as dictated by site conditions
  • Ascent Reel with Lift Bag /Surface Marker Buoy
