Advanced Trimix
OVERVIEW
The Advanced Trimix Course provides the training required to competently
and safely utilize breathing hypoxic gases containing helium for dives that
require staged decompression, utilizing nitrox and / or oxygen mixtures during
decompression to a maximum depth of 330 fsw /100 msw.
QUALIFICATIONS OF GRADUATES
Upon successful completion of this course, graduates are considered competent
to plan and execute technical dives that require stage decompression and utilize
helium-based tri-mix breathing gas mixtures and EANx and/or oxygen for stage
decompression without direct supervision to depths not to exceed 330 fsw (100
msw) provided the diving activities and the areas dived approximate those of
training.
PREREQUISITES FOR ENTERING THE COURSE
- Minimum age of 18
- Minimum certification as a Extended Range Diver or Trimix (Entry or Normoxic) Diver
(or equivalent)
- Minimum of 100 logged dives with 25 deeper than 100 fsw or equivalent at
the discretion of the instructor
COURSE POLICIES
- Classroom Briefing Hours - 8
- Openwater Dives - 4 successfully executed dives with a minimum accumulated bottom time of 100 minutes,
with at least two dives deeper than 180 fsw / 55 msw
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
The following equipment is required for each student:
- Bottom Mix Cylinder(s)
1. Cylinder volume appropriate for planned dive and student gas consumption 2. Dual outlet valve, double manifold or independent doubles 3. Labeled in accordance with TDI Standards
- Travel Mix Cylinder(s)
1. Cylinder volume appropriate for planned dive and student gas consumption
2. Labeled in accordance with TDI Standards
- Decompression Mix Cylinder(s)
1. Cylinder volume appropriate for planned dive and student gas consumption
2. Labeled in accordance with TDI Standards
- Suit Inflation Cylinder (required for drysuit divers only)
- Regulators
1. Primary and primary redundant required on all bottom mix cylinder(s)
2. Submersible pressure gauges are required on all primary! bottom mix cylinders
3. A contingency use long hose second stage should be designated and appropriately
rigged to facilitate air sharing at depth if necessary
4. It is strongly recommended that all 4 required regulators be DIN or be yoke
- Buoyancy Compensator(s) adequate for equipment configuration
- Redundant Depth and Timing Devices
- Redundant Light System if required by site
- Ascent Reel with Lift Bag/Surface Marker Buoy
1. Adequate for maximum planned depth
2. Minimum of 50 lb. lift bag (a dump valve highly recommended)
- Exposure suit adequate for the openwater environment
- Line Cutting Device
- Underwater Slate or Notebook (for decompression / contingency tables)
Required Skill Performance and Graduation Requirements
In order to complete this course, students must:
- Satisfactorily complete the Advanced Trimix Course written examination.
- Complete all open water requirements safely and efficiently.
- Demonstrate mature, sound judgment concerning dive planning and execution.
