Technical Divemaster Class / Course / Certification

 

OVERVIEW

The TDI ( Technical Diving International ) Technical Divemaster program is designed to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for an individual to lead certified Technical divers in the open water environment equivalent or assist an instructor up to the level certified.

QUALIFICATIONS OF GRADUATES

Upon successful completion of this course, graduates may:

  • Assist an active TDI instructor during approved diving courses provided the activities are similar to the graduate’s prior training.
  • Supervise and conduct dives for certified Technical divers provided the activities are similar to the graduate’s prior training.

STUDENT PRE-REQUISITES

  • Be a minimum age of eighteen (18).
  • Hold a certification as a Sport Diver Divemaster.
  • Hold Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Have a current medical examination.
  • Proof of fifty (50) logged open water dives.
  • Hold the Technical Diver Rating which they are applying for Divemaster certification in.
    (For  example: An Advanced Nitrox Diver, who is also a Divemaster, 
    may receive a  Technical Divemaster rating up to Advanced Nitrox.)

REQUIRED COURSE MINIMUMS

  • Classroom / Briefing Hours - 10 (estimated)
  • Openwater Dives - 4 (with a minimum accumulated bottom time of 100 minutes).

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT

The following equipment is the minimum required for each student:

  • Mask and Fins.
  • Buoyancy compensator with low-pressure power inflator.
  • Regulator with submersible pressure gauge. Students wearing air integrated hose-less computers are not required to carry a submersible pressure gauge.
  • Alternate air source.
  • Weight system and/or weights.
  • Personal dive computer.
  • Exposure suit adequate for the training conditions.
  • Compressed gas cylinder.
  • Compass.
  • Knife and Rescue signal.
  • A dive flag is required on all training dives unless otherwise specified by local laws or regulations (unless in a pool).
  • Extra Equipment associated with the particular technical diving activity they are part taking in.

Required Skill Performance and Graduation Requirements

Divemaster Performance Requirements:

  • Must give a minimum of two (2) briefs/debriefs.
  • Show preparation, planning, and control in dive management and technical diving activities.
  • Three (3) open water dives.
  • Training dives must not exceed the diver’s current experience.
  • Upon successful completion of the dives – students must complete their logbooks and the instructor must sign off on the completed dives.
  • Students must demonstrate all the skills required in the previous courses at Divemaster quality in leadership level equipment. 
  • Skills include:
    1. Diving equipment assembly and disassembly.
    2. Equipment inspection.
    3. Entries and exits.
    4. Proper weighting and buoyancy control.
    5. Regulator recovery.
    6. Controlled descents and ascents.
    7. Underwater swimming.
    8. Buddy system techniques.
    9. Weight /ballast system removal and replacement.
    10. Scuba system removal and replacement.
    11. Out-of-air emergency alternatives.
    12. Equipment care and maintenance.

In order to complete this course, students must:

  • Satisfactorily complete the Divemaster Course written examination.
  • Complete all open water requirements safely and efficiently.
  • Demonstrate mature, sound judgment concerning dive planning and execution.
